2012 US Elections - The People Have Spoken: No Confidence Voter turnout expected to be lower than 2008, US President's mandate ranges between 25-35%.
Here is some math the establishment hopes you never do. Take the popular vote the newly elected president received, and see what percent of voter turnout it actually makes up. You will find that out of all eligible voters, the president is put into power with only between 25-35%. This isn't just with President Obama in 2012, but is a common feature of most US elections, and many elections around the world.
The next question becomes, what do we do about it?

AP notes: Preliminary figures suggest fewer people voted this year than four years ago, when voters shattered turnout records as they elected Obama to his first term. In most states, the numbers were even lower than in 2004, said Curtis Gans, director of American University’s Center for the Study of the American Electorate. Every state but Iowa is showing a smaller turnout than in 2008, Gans said. Still, the full picture may not be known for weeks because much of the counting takes place after Election Day. “This was a major plunge in turnout nationally,” said Gans, who estimated about 126 million Americans voted, for an overall turnout rate of about 57.5 percent. “Beyond the people with passion, we have a disengaged electorate,” Gans said.

It's Official: Liberals and Conservatives Becoming Zombies As Obama continues to execute, for another four years, the very same policies implemented by Bush (and by Romney had he been elected), individuals who call themselves “liberals” or “progressives” will be faced with the challenge of defending what they perceive to be “their candidate” irrespective of reality, facts, and common sense.
Like the first four years, self-proclaimed progressives will continue to support the wholesale slaughter of innocent people in foreign countries, indefinite detention, banker bailouts, free trade, and a gross violation of civil liberties and Constitutional rights. While these very acts were once what liberals claimed was fueling their hatred of George W. Bush, it turns out that what passes for a progressive in 2012 is a rejection of war and totalitarianism directed by Republicans – not war and totalitarianism itself.
Indeed, when asking your average Obama fan their reason for such irrational support, one can scarcely receive an answer that does not have its root in false and divisive social paradigms such as his party, his race, or his age. Simply put, Obama supporters main reason for their allegiance to Barack Obama can be boiled down to two words – “He’s Obama!”

Anyone remember that United Nations Small Arms Treaty from earlier this year that passed while the media slept doing its “business” with the elections? Well, within literally hours of Obama’s re-election the U.N. General Assembly’s disarmament committee started the process of reopening treaty talks to regulate the sale of firearms globally again.
Obama didn't miss a beat. He picked up where he left off. He's America's most belligerent leader. He's waging multiple direct and proxy wars abroad and at home by other means. Despite pressing unresolved domestic issues, he celebrated his electoral victory belligerently.
On November 7, he bombed Yemen. Washington's been waging proxy war there for years. Daily attacks occur. Drones are the weapon of choice.
Remote warriors conduct sanitized killing on the cheap. Death and injury tolls rise. Mostly civilians are harmed. On November 8, Press TV headlined "US drone kills three in Yemen." US media scoundrels ignored it.

Immediately following the re-election of Obama the Dow was sent spiraling down 300 points, but it was the gun manufacturing stocks that saw an immediate surge.
For instance Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. jumped 10.8% to $10.48 a share. That’s more than double its price at the beginning of 2012. In addition Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. saw a surge in their stocks as well gaining 6.4% to $47.48 a share, an increase of 39% from the first of the year.

Will Americans Be Stripped of Citizenship Based on Accusation?
In a recent op-ed published in Jurist, St. John’s University School of Law student Christopher Elsee described a scenario he believes threatens the civil rights of his fellow citizens.
Writes Elsee:
Imagine you have just written a check to an organization that sends mechanical engineering textbooks to students in Afghanistan or Iraq. Now further imagine that you have been engaged in this practice for well over a decade because you are interested in helping individuals in developing countries to improve their technical knowledge, with the hopes of enabling them to better themselves. Are you supporting terrorists? According to a proposed piece of legislation, you may very well be.
The latest iteration of the bill, known as the Enemy Expatriation Act, similarly augments the power of the federal government, allowing it to strip a suspect of his American citizenship based on nothing more than a suspicion of “engaging in, or purposefully or materially supporting, hostilities.” The text of the 2011 bill reads in relevant part:
A person who is a national of the United States whether by birth or naturalization, shall lose his nationality by voluntarily performing any of the following acts with the intention of relinquishing United States nationality … committing any act of treason against, or attempting by force to overthrow, or bearing arms against, the United States, violating or conspiring to violate any of the provisions of section 2383 of title 18, or willfully performing any act in violation of section 2385 of title 18, or violating section 2384 of title 18 by engaging in a conspiracy to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, if and when he is convicted thereof by a court martial or by a court of competent jurisdiction.
15 States including Texas have filed a petition to secede from the United States
As of Saturday November 10, 2012, 15 States have petitioned the Obama Administration for withdrawal from the United States of America in order to create its own government.
States following this action include: Louisiana, Texas, Montana, North Dakota, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Colorado, Oregon and New York. These States have requested that the Obama Administration grant a peaceful withdrawal from the United States.
These petitions were filed just days after the 2012 Presidential election.
Louisiana was the first State to file a petition a day after the election by a Michael E. from Slidell, Louisiana. Texas was the next State to follow by a Micah H. from Arlington, Texas.
The government allows one month from the day the petition is submitted to obtain 25,000 signatures in order for the Obama administration to consider the request.
The Texas petition reads as follows:
The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.
As of 12:46 am, Sunday, signatures obtained by Louisiana, 7,358; Texas, 3,771; Florida, 636; Georgia, 475; Alabama, 834; North Carolina, 792; Kentucky, 467; Mississippi, 475; Indiana, 449; North Dakota, 162; Montana, 440; Colorado, 324; Oregon, 328; New Jersey, 301 and New York, 169. Many more States are expected to follow.
A petition is not searchable at WhiteHouse.gov until 150 signatures have been obtained. It is the originator's responsibility to obtain these signatures.
First Things First: Obama slaps Iran with new sanctions
Just days after his re-election to the White House, Barack Obama has imposed new sanctions against Tehran. This comes as the Pentagon has revealed that Iranian warplanes tried to shoot down a US drone flying near Iran's border last week.
Reza Marashi, Research Director at the National Iranian American Council, says the US has so far failed to use the bargaining opportunity the sanctions potentially have.

I don't know what else to say about this matter because welfare plus the military complex are going to bring about the complete collapse of our system. One last point. It won't make a difference which political party gets the White House or control of Congress in the next election. It just doesn't matter any more and if you think it does, then you are sadly ignorant of the facts, hopelessly naive or tragically stupid.

U.S. reiterates opposition to Palestine's UN bid
The U.S. government on Friday reiterated its opposition to Palestine's bid to seek a non-member- state status in the United Nations, Xinhua reported. "Our comment is no different than the comment that we've been making for more than a year," said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland at a regular briefing. "Actions in the United Nations, efforts to move this forward in the United Nations, are not going to bring the Palestinian people any closer to a state." A senior Palestinian official recently said that the vote on whether to recognize Palestine as a non-member state by the United Nations will be "very soon."
The United States and Israel oppose the Palestinians' UN bid, and have called on Palestine to gain statehood through peace negotiations.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reportedly told Israeli TV in an interview that will be aired on Friday evening: "We want an independent Palestinian state on the territories occupied in 1967 beside the state of Israel."
"I think we've been pretty clear here about what we are seeking, which is a negotiated solution between Israelis and Palestinians that is lasting and sustainable and results in two states that can live next to each other," Nuland added.
U.S. should reconsider giving aid to Israel Recent Sounding Board comments reveal a consensus that foreign aid takes scarce taxpayer money from us and, at the least, requires monitoring to ensure that it supports America's interests.
Last month, 15 leaders of major American Christian churches wrote a letter to Congress to reconsider giving aid to Israel because of documented human rights abuses against Palestinian civilians. The letter comes after many years of failed efforts to encourage both sides to pursue peace. Church leaders making their voices heard for justice and reason include Presbyterians, Lutherans, United Methodists, United Church of Christ, the Disciples of Christ, American Friends Service Committee (Quakers), National Council of Churches, and the Mennonite Central Committee. Two Catholic leaders also signed, including the head of the Conference of Major Superiors, a coalition of men's religious orders. The letter focuses only on Israel since it is the largest recipient of American foreign aid and our money is given without any accountability. We pay Israel more than $3 billion every year, mostly for military weapons to the fourth strongest military in the world and to a country whose economy, arguably, is in better financial shape than our own. Many authorities here and in the Middle East believe this aid helps fuel anti-American feelings.
The Federal Reserve ADMITS that Its 12 Banks Are PRIVATE - Not Government – Entities
Much of the tens of trillions in bailout money and "easy" money from quantitative easing went to foreign banks (and see embedded links this, this and this). Indeed, Ron Paul noted recently that one-third of all fed bailout loans - and essentially100% of loans from the New York Fed - went to foreign banks. The New York Fed is the most important Fed bank. As Bloomberg pointed out in 2009:

Internet legislation has failed to pass in the halls of Congress in any form. The most recent attempt was the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 which was voted down by the Senate in August of this year.
The Hill recently reported that the cybersecurity bill is likely dead in Congress despite the Administrations best efforts to ratchet up the fear of a imminent "Cyber 9/11". The Hill writes:
Cybersecurity legislation faces long odds of passing Congress this year despite forceful calls for action from the White House and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.
After Panetta warned in a speech last month that the cyber threat facing the United States represents a 'pre-9/11 moment,' Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he planned to bring cybersecurity legislation to the floor in November and take another shot at clearing a bill through the upper chamber.
But there are several roadblocks that could prevent a bill from even reaching the Senate floor, and observers say Congress will likely punt the issue to next year.

Actually, It's People Who Vote Who Have No Right To Complain (I posted this on Election Day last year. I have decided to post it again on Election Day this year for people who have discovered LewRockwell.com since then. I will probably continue to re-post this every Election Day—until Homeland Security eventually shuts down LewRockwell.com)
If you're a voluntaryist, like I am, I'm sure that you've had some person at one time or another say to you, "If you don't vote, then you have no right to complain." But that person's logic is backwards. If I don't accept something to begin with (in this case, the institution of government), what logic would it be on my part to have any sort of association and/or dealings with it that perpetuates its legitimacy—and then complain about it? If I don't like Chinese food, I don't go to Chinese restaurants. (And since the owners of the Chinese restaurants can't come after me to force me to patronize their businesses, then there's no need for me to complain about Chinese food.)
But if you do associate and/or have dealings with something, then there is a tacit understanding that you have accepted its conditions. For example: If you are a left-winger who believes in government and voting—but obviously didn't vote for Bush—then when Bush was elected you had no right to complain; you've already agreed to the condition that you will accept the results of the election regardless of who wins. (Of course, a person can complain about certain aspects of the government in the same way that I can complain about some of the food in a restaurant that I do patronize.)
On the other hand, since I (as a voluntaryist) don't accept the legitimacy of (nor even the need for) government to begin with, I have every right to complain about this inefficient, corrupt monopoly forcing itself on my personal being when I don't even want the services that it provides.

Let's get real and personal, Californians. Your lives are at stake here. How many people have you spoken to? How many churches, temples, organizations, etc., are you in and have you informed other members? How many signs have you made yourself and put up?
The following sign says it all. But it must to be translated into Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Amharic, etc. and put up everywhere. On car windows, on baby strollers, on bikes, on telephone poles, on fences, on walls, on bulletin boards at coffee shops, in cafes, etc.

Is Team Organic Outspending Team Big Ag in the GMO Labeling Fight?
In my Tuesday post about California's Prop. 37 ballot initiative that would require the labeling of genetically modified food, I wrote about a "gusher" of agribusiness cash entering the state to defeat the proposition, which will be voted on in the November election. In the first comment below the post, frequent commenter Rachael Ludwick writes that "groups in favor of this proposition have so far outspent Big Ag."
And she's right—but the gap is closing quickly. Here's what I mean.
These are all massive entities with plenty of capacity to give more as the election draws near.
On the "yes" side, by far the biggest giver since the start of July has been the Organic Consumers Fund ($150,000), which is the 501C(4) arm of the Organic Consumers Association. The OCA has long been the scrappy gadfly of the organic-food movement, holding out for a non-corporate view of what organic means. Under federal law, 501C(4) entities don't have to disclose their donors, and OCA director Ronnie Cummins has not returned my email asking for information on donors. Stacy Malkan of California Right to Know told me that the Organic Consumers Fund mainly raises its money from small donors.
Organic food companies like Eden Foods ($10,000), Nutiva ($50,000) made grants to the "yes" side, as did Michael Funk, CEO of United Natural Foods, who gave $50,000. But even the largest of these companies, United Natural Foods, is small compared to the agrichemical interests funding the "no" side. United Natural Foods has annual revenues of about $5 billion, dwarfed by DuPont (annual revenues of $40 billion), Syngenta ($13 billion), and BASF ($90 billion). Eden Foods, with its $44 million in annual revenue, and Nutiva, with its $20 million, don't play in that league.
Then there's trade associations. In addition to the above-mentioned Biotechnology Industry Organization, the "no" side has benefited from the largesse of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, which has so far given a total of $375,000 and has declared that defeating Prop. 37 is its "highest priority" in 2012. GMA—whose members range from Big Food companies like Kellogg, Nestle, and Pepsi to Big Agribiz companies like Monsanto and Syngenta—brought in $33 million in 2010, according to its last publicly available tax form 990. It's got the corporate resources to pump significant money into beating back the labeling challenge.
In short, while the forces in favor of Prop. 37 have indeed so far raised and spent more cash than the opponents, the situation looks likely to dramatically reverse as the election draws nearer. As Katherine Spiers of Los Angeles' KCET Radio put it recently, "Expect to see plenty of 'Yes on 37' stickers and signs at your local farmers' market between now and November—and even more 'No on 37' commercials on TV."

Williams concludes that “the official recovery simply is a statistical illusion created by the government’s use of understated inflation in deflating the GDP.” In other words, the reported gains in GDP are accounted for by price increases, not increases in real output.
On September 13, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben “Helicopter” Bernanke announced Quantitative Easing 3. Bernanke said that the recovery is weak and needs more Fed stimulus. He said the Fed will purchase $40 billion of mortgage bonds per month in order to drive interest rates further below the rate of inflation and help to sell more houses.
But how do you sell houses to households who are getting by with 1967-68 levels of real income and who have absolutely no job security? Their company can be taken over and offshored tomorrow or they can be replaced by foreign workers on H-1B visas. Housing prices have dropped, but not to 1967-68 levels. Sooner or later the dollar will collapse from Washington’s abuse of the dollar’s role as reserve currency, and the dollar will lose its “safe haven” status. US inflation will rise, and US political stability, along with America’s hegemonic power, will wane.
The rest of the world will sigh with relief. And China will have defeated the superpower without an arms race or firing a shot.
Crowded Prisons, Unions, and CA Three Strikes: Why We Can't Just Build More Cages
"Where other states are investing resources in, 'How do we help these people not come back into the prison system?,' California is not," says Adrian Moore, Vice President of Research at Reason Foundation.
The United States locks up more prisoners than any other country. And in the country holding the most prisoners in the world, California is the state that incarcerates more people than any other. California's prisons are so overcrowded that the Supreme Court ruled them in violation of the Eighth Amendment's "cruel and unusual punishment" clause.
Moore and others lay much of the blame at the feet of California's powerful prison guard union, the California Correction Peace Officer's Association (CCPOA), which is unrelenting in its advocacy for tough-on-crime laws, including California Three Strikes, under which any third-time felon can receive a 25-year to life sentence, even if the crime is not a violent, "serious felony (PDF)."
California voters have a chance to reform Three Strikes this year by voting for Prop 36, which would allow Third Strikers convicted of non-serious, nonviolent crimes to appeal for a sentence reduction. More than 3,500 Third Strikers were sentenced for a non-violent, non-serious crime, and of these, more than 1,300 were sentenced for drug-related offenses (PDF). CCPOA, which has donated money to stopping similar reforms in the past, has stayed relatively silent this time around, but another lobbying group, the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) has stepped up with a $100,000 donation to an anti-Prop 36 campaign.
"We do lobby for stronger laws on the book that we can use to put people away, because these are people that are preying on the citizens of California," says Ron Cottingham, president of PORAC.
But with prisons overcrowding, recidivism high, and local jails facing troubles of their own, some sort of reform will need to happen, says Moore, though he doesn't expect a viable solution to be offered by the unions any time soon.
"[The unions] are following their own self-interest," says Moore, "which is to have the prison system in California continue to be large and to grow over time, and they have been very successful at that."

POLICING FOR PROFIT: Feds try to take innocent elderly couple's Mom-and-Pop motel The most contentious civil forfeiture fight in the nation will be the subject of a week-long trial starting Monday, November 5, 2012, in Boston. Throughout the week, the Institute for Justice, which represents the property owners in the case, will expose the ugly practice of civil forfeiture—where law enforcement agencies can pad their budgets by taking property from innocent owners who have never been convicted or even charged with a crime.
The trial will start at 10 a.m. at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Way in Boston. The case of Tewksbury, Mass., motel owner Russ Caswell and his wife will be presided over by Magistrate Judge Judith G. Dein in Courtroom 15. At the heart of the trial will be the protections afforded innocent owners, like the Caswells, when faced with the loss of their property.
All Russ and his wife want is to peacefully operate their motel. But because their property was worth one million dollars and carried no mortgage, and because a handful of drug crimes had taken place on the property over 20 years (which represent less than .05 percent of the 125,000 rooms the Caswells rented over that period of time), the federal government is trying to take the Caswell's property through civil forfeiture, sell the land and keep the money. Under a process known as "equitable sharing," the federal government would keep 20 percent of what they net and the local police department would pocket 80 percent. Russ and his wife stand to lose everything they worked their lives to build.
"The Caswell case epitomizes everything that is wrong with our nation's civil forfeiture laws," said Scott Bullock, senior attorney at the Institute for Justice.
"People who are never even charged let alone convicted of criminal wrongdoing can face the loss of their homes, cars, cash, or, like with the Caswells, their entire business and livelihood."
"This outrageous forfeiture action should never have been filed in the first place," said Larry Salzman, an IJ attorney. "What the government is doing amounts to little more than a grab for what they saw as quick cash under the guise of civil forfeiture. Our goal in this case is to not only spotlight the inevitable abuse that transpires when law enforcement agencies are allowed to use civil forfeiture, but to set a precedent that will end this nightmare for the Caswells and stop an abuse of power that has ruined the lives of too many innocent Americans."
Russ said, "I think it is quite obvious why the federal government has come after us and not other businesses. We own a million-dollar property with no mortgage, so anything they get here, they get to keep for themselves. This case took a huge financial toll on our family before the Institute for Justice stepped up to defend us. And it continues to put a huge personal strain on both me and my wife. At this point in our lives, we should be thinking about our retirement. Instead, we have to take on this fight to save our business and make sure that it won't happen again to the next generation that comes along."
Obama Justice Department Set to Overrule any State that Legalizes Marijuana
Depending on the outcome of initiatives in three states, a confrontation awaits between the U.S. Department of Justice and advocates for legalizing marijuana. On November 6, voters in Colorado, Washington and Oregon will decide whether to legalize and tax marijuana sales. If one or more of the measures passes, and President Barack Obama is reelected, expect the Justice Department to take action to stop any state from decriminalizing the popular herb.
In an outtake in a recent interview with “60 Minutes,” Deputy Attorney General James Cole proclaimed that the federal government is prepared to stop any “dangers” associated with state-sanctioned recreational pot.
“We’re going to take a look at whether or not there are dangers to the community from the sale of marijuana and we’re going to go after those dangers,” Cole told the television news magazine.
A crackdown on drug legalization would follow other efforts by the Obama administration to shutdown medical marijuana dispensaries operating within state law in California and elsewhere.
Partisan politics are deluded, at best. If you consider yourself a Republican or Democrat, can you really point to every stance that your party endorses and say that you agree 100%? We’ve got a lot of young people these days doing cartwheels for President Obama, but do they really agree with him extending the Patriot Act? Do they support the NDAA? It is very sad that, in this country, we are forced to choose between the lesser of two evils because our democracy is not set up to enable representation of the minority, never allowing it to gain traction. I have the luxury of living in a state that is already firmly decided on what candidate it will give its electoral votes to, so I will be casting my vote for a third party that better fits my political views. Unfortunately, if you are living in a swing state, but harbor the same feelings I do toward partisan politics, you’ll be casting your vote for the lesser evil, but evil none the less.
